Dhritiman Borah
Owner of DB Industries
Nabapur, Biswanath Chariali, Biswanath, Assam, India
Dhritiman Borah’s journey with bamboo began in 2001 when he attended a 10-day training program at the Cane & Bamboo Technology Centre in Guwahati. At just 19 years old, his passion for craftsmanship inspired him to start DB Industries in 2002 — without proper tools, equipment, design knowledge, or even awareness of the market potential for bamboo products.
What he did have was determination and the unwavering support of his family. Within a year, Dhritiman showcased his work at his first exhibition, where he discovered the strong market demand for bamboo products. This encouraged him to train his workers in product development and expand his creations. By 2006, he was exhibiting across India, winning multiple awards for his designs.
Initially focused on furniture, Dhritiman later introduced a range of fancy and gifting items. In 2016, he participated in his first international export exhibition in Delhi, connecting directly with global buyers. His first export went to Sweden, and soon DB Industries’ products reached customers in many countries.
Today, DB Industries offers products in four main categories, with kitchenware being a standout — crafted through a completely herbal, organic process. In 2017, Dhritiman invented the organic bamboo bottle, which is now famous worldwide. His workshop has developed over 600 bamboo-based items, fulfilling market demand while supporting a cluster of 250 artisans, including 20+ who work directly in his industry.
From humble beginnings to becoming a global name in bamboo craftsmanship, Dhritiman Borah’s story is one of skill, innovation, and community empowerment.
